Stay connected

Imagine yourself using an iron. You’ve removed the plug after ironing and suddenly you remember that there are other clothes that need ironing. Without delay, you’ve continued ironing one of your dresses without making sure that the iron is plugged to the socket. Initially, you might not see any difference but as the iron begins to cool down you would notice that the wrinkles on the dress are not straightened out. It then becomes a worthless effort continuing with the ironing without plugging the iron to the socket. However, as soon as the iron is plugged in, it becomes hot enough to do the job.

The same way that the iron received energy when plugged in, we also receive life and power when we are connected to Christ. He is the source of life, because he has life in himself. When we are connected to Christ, then we receive his life.

John 5:26 (New King James Version) “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself.”

We stay connected to Christ by abiding in him and his word. Abiding in Christ means to have regular fellowship with the Holy Spirit, to abide in his presence, spending quality time with him and our hearts being in total submission to him. When we stay connected to Christ, we stay connected to life.
The word of God has life in itself and we already have this life in us. However, the extent in which we abide in his word equates to the more of his life that flows into us

John 6:63 (New King James Version) “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”

The above statement is spoken by Jesus Christ himself to all who care to listen. The word of God is the greatest force in the universe. It is the power that holds all things in place. This word must be in our hearts, and we must live by the principles of the word of God. The way that the Holy Spirit has helped me to abide in Christ is by being totally dependent on him. I now share everything with Him. It is a daily walk with him. He is always faithful to give a clearer picture of what is going on in my life. He also gives a perfect revelation of the word of God and its application to my life.

There is no other way apart from Christ and the life he gives. Stop wasting your time with religion and tradition because they enslave. Receive a fresh word from him regularly and let Christ direct the course of your life.

Galatians 5:1 (New King James Version) “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

The Lost Axe Head

There is a story in the bible about the sons of the prophets who borrowed an axe. The axe head fell into the river as they were using it to fell trees. The problem was identified immediately and help was sought from Prophet Elisha. The axe head was retrieved and the sons of the prophet were able to continue with their work.

2 Kings 6:1-7 “And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell.” So he answered, “Go.” Then one said, “Please consent to go with your servants.” And he answered, “I will go.” So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed.” So the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. Therefore he said, “Pick it up for yourself.” So he reached out his hand and took it.”

It is the axe head that gives identity to the axe. Without the axe head, the axe loses its identity. What is the use of an axe without a head? It will cease to be called an axe but rather an ordinary stick. What can you cut with a stick? Without the axe head the work cannot continue. If you try to continue, it will be hard labour, no progress and a lot of frustration.

The axe head can be likened to Christ. Without him, man loses his identity in God. He is the power and the wisdom of God. He is the express image of the living God. He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the light of the world. Living your life and doing things without a relationship with him is like cutting down a tree with an axe without a head. More time is spent, more energy is expended and little or nothing is achieved. Every man on the surface of this earth needs Christ because he is the only person who gives meaning to our lives.

If you are already a Christian you still need to depend on him every day. Christians must stop expecting God to follow the plans that they have made for themselves. Instead, he wants us to be fully dependent on him. This becomes easy when we form a relationship with him and involve him in every area of our lives. We must stop running our lives without him.

The axe head can also be likened to the word of God. Without the word of God in our hearts, life becomes a struggle. This is because the word of God is our inheritance and a great substance to hold onto. It is only the word of God that gives victory in this wicked and sinful generation. The word of God is very powerful to heal, to give sight to the blind, to liberate those who are bound by the deceptions of the enemy. The word of God likened to the axe head cuts off what is not of God in our lives. It cuts through obstacles and barriers making way in those places where you have lost hope.

The word of God is alive. It has all the seven characteristics of living things. Living things respire and so does the word of God because God breathes on it. All living things feed in order to derive energy. The word of God derives its energy from the power of God. Living things grow; however the growth of the word of God is unlimited compared to any living thing on earth.

Living things move; the word of God moves at a great speed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Living things respond; the word of God responds when spoken in faith. Living things excrete; there is no waste product in the word of God which signifies its purity. All living things have the ability to reproduce. The word of God is produced by God himself; so it has the ability to reproduce itself wherever it is sent.

Hebrews 4:12 (New King James Version) “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Your prayer becomes more effective when you use the word of God. If the word of God is not used, it will be like cutting down a tree without the axe head. Do you know that praying in the spirit is an express way of getting the job done? This is because you are speaking from the heart of God with the help of the Holy Spirit who resides in you. Your life will be reformed and starts to align to the plan and purpose of God for your life.

Retrieve your axe head today, and start to cut down the trees. This is because the temple of God must be built, his sanctuary must be built, and your life must be built. His church must be built and this nation must be built.

You never need to be alone anymore

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth and so will guide you into all truths. He is the most reliable companion I have ever come across. Though I cannot see him, I hear his still small voice and I sometimes feel his presence. Jesus Christ said that when he leaves the earth, he will send another helper who will abide with us forever.

John 14:16 (New King James Version) “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever”

In essence Jesus is saying “I am the helper, but I will send another one who is just like me.” Although Jesus left the earth, his Spirit is still with us. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus.

Don’t you think this is good news? This is because anything that you would have discussed with Jesus when he was on earth, you can discuss it with the Holy Spirit now. You can talk with him anytime of the day and ask him any question. Distance is no barrier because he is with you and he can live in you if you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour.

When Jesus was on earth many people wanted to be near him. Some tried to touch the helm of his garment, the paralytic was let down through the roof of a house before he could be healed by Jesus. Zacchaeus had to climb a tree just to have a glimpse of him. Mary and Martha had to wait for 4 days before Jesus could come to raise Lazarus from the dead. Nicodemus could only come at night to see Jesus possibly because he wanted to avoid the comments of the other Pharisees.

The good news is that you don’t need to wait for Jesus to come, he is already here. If you are a born again Christian, then you belong to Him and he has the right to dwell in you. If you are not a born again Christian then he is with you. He however, wants you to believe in him so that he can come to reside in you.

John 14:16-17 (New King James Version) “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”

When the Holy Spirit takes up residency in you then you belong to Him. For example, when you own a house then you are expected to live in that house. People will be surprised when they see you loitering outside your house.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (New King James Version) “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

The Holy Spirit is very gentle. When you become his dwelling place, he begins to wait for you to start engaging with him; he won’t force himself on you. He will however lead and direct you as you yield to him. I heard Mike Bickle say that the best way to engage with the Holy Spirit is to talk to him. This is a true statement.

Unconsciously, we have neglected the Holy Spirit and many Christians might not talk to him throughout their Christian life. The disciples talked to him, they asked him questions and he taught them many things. They shared everything with him. There are things you share with friends and families and at the end of the day you feel worse than before.

The people you go to for help don’t even have the slightest clue to the solution of their problems. Some of them might even ridicule you. Some of them might share what you consider a secret with others. You must allow the Holy Spirit to be your confidant. He must be the first to know what is going on in your heart.

Thereafter, whatever he tells you to do, just do it. You might say “but he knows all things so he surely knows my heart so I don’t need to discuss things with him.” You are right; but until you tell him, he might not do anything about it.” I believe that the Holy Spirit tends to mind his business and only interferes when he is invited.

Matthew 7:7 (New King James Version) “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

The knowledge of man is limited but the knowledge of the Holy Spirit is vast and unlimited. He is the Spirit of God and so knows the mind of God concerning you. Start your walk with the Holy Spirit today and you will be amazed when he starts sharing the heart of God with you. There are issues in your life that you don’t know the truth about. You have since blamed your parents, your friends, your background and so on. Open up to the Holy Spirit and he will show you great and mighty things that you don’t know.

Jeremiah 33:3 (New King James Version) “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

I have asked the Holy Spirit questions about how to tackle situations and he has answered me. Sometimes the answer comes immediately and other times it might take days. No matter the case you will always receive answers to your questions. Begin today by pouring out your heart to him, trust him and depend on him. I believe this message will quicken the Holy Spirit within you and start bringing you into a realm of divine revelation. You will never be lonely again.
